Are you a veteran? Do you know a veteran? I'm a staunch supporter of the noble men and women who sacrifice parts of their lives and sometimes their lives for this country.
Does our country as a whole honor them? Sadly, no. There are special interests that feel much more support than veterans. I won't dig into those interests or the reason they are more popular than those who would give their lives for us.
I love this country and the heart of the people. However, the leadership does not reflect that heart, and they will not make decisions that are for the best of the country. Instead they want tolerance which is thinly veiled appeasement, and they continue to pander to the special interests.
God asks us to pray for our leaders, and at the same time, there is 2 Chronicles 7:14, which says, "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
We need to get back to prayer, humility and repentance. The subject of my first novel, American Anthem, is exactly that. Take a look at it at Amazon.com today.
We have all seen the reality TV shows when they are going to do the reveal on the new house or the new car and they go to commercial, building the anticipation of the incredible unveiling that is about to occur. That's what it's like as an author to have a book ready to go, but need to wait for edits, or feedback, or press releases, or to find a place to do the book release. Then it all has to come together for a single three hour period of sheer enjoyment. I finally get to share my endeavor with the world.
As a writer, you wake up suddenly one evening with a story inspiration. It may only be a word or a feeling, but that's what starts the creative juices flowing. Then a week later, you see a place or a friend, or a stranger on the street and the story becomes more real. That creative process repeats itself a thousand times until the book is finally on paper. My mind can tell a story much faster than my fingers can type. That's why I feel like I've lived the story when it's done. Because I've watched the scene play out a hundred times in my head trying out new phrases, or situations or character until it's perfect and it goes on the page.
With that introduction, I want to announce (or re-announce) the launch of my new novel, Inspiration Point. It takes place in or around Lander, Wyoming and follows a single family through seven generations as they struggle to carve a living from the land, and with their neighbors, as well as make time for a relationship with God. Inspiration Point is a place on the ranch where if they pray to God, at that point, the prayer will be answered. However, it quit working, and the current owner tells the story of his family to the Realtor that will list the property and sell it.

Here in Middle Tennessee, we have been told by our faithful and ever-energetic weather forecasters that we have a big snow storm coming. Yesterday, sure enough there was a run on supplies at the local supermarkets. This morning it was 11 degrees with a wind chill below zero. I'm sure church attendance will be down.
When Jesus was on the earth he was faithful and ever-energetic telling the disciples that he was going to be killed and would rise again, still they were surprised. Peter denied Christ. Thomas doubted. This is not because they were 'from the slow group' as my Pastor would say. They were human. They were living in the shadow of a walking miracle and they didn't want it to end.
Life today is the same way. We have our storms, we have our bleak times. But there is always a spring, and always something good that happens. You may be going through a deep winter with oppressive gray days, but still, there will be that single green shoot that sprouts a flower. That might be the smile of a child, or the wagging tail of your dog. Take the joy that is freely presented and don't wallow in the grey. Christ is available for all of us and he wants us to be happy and live in joy and abundance.
My next book is going to touch on joy and grief and the ups and downs of life. I've been shown how to tie it all together and I need to start outlining. I find great joy in being able to tell a story and get an emotional response. If I can hear that you laughed or cried, then I've done my job.
Stay warm, stay safe, and live with Christ in your heart.
I have set American Anthem, Prayer for Our Nation, and God's Unfailing Love as free downloads for Kindle via Amazon.com this weekend through 2/15/15. If you download the book and post a review on Amazon.com, I will put you in a drawing for a free autographed copy of Inspiration Point.
If you hadn’t heard, there is a book launch coming up! Inspiration Point is available now, but the official book launch is on February 21, 2015. Today, I was able to confirm the location of the signing at CarpeCafe, 115 Front Street, Smyrna, TN.
I also was able to send out about 50 press releases to newspaper and TV stations in Wyoming, Arizona and Tennessee.
Last week I finished the author website at jimkape.com
