As this country seems to careen toward division and hatefulness, while we debate the ultimate reason for the massacre in Orlando, I have a suggestion.
Before I state the suggestion let’s look at everything that is being said:
As you can see we are blaming everybody and not accepting any part of the blame. I think you and I own some of it. We allow divisive words to either come out of our mouth, or we support those to spew as our proxy. We endorse divisive candidates. We look more for blame than solutions.
It is my belief that we don’t have a gun problem, but a heart problem. We may not attack each other with guns or knives, but words, memes, and tweets are aggressive, divisive and counterproductive nonetheless. This is what I want to try to address.
So here it is, the suggestion: Assume Godliness. If we assume that each person we meet or interact with embodies, embraces, and loves God as we do. We can no longer hate them. We can only love them. Their actions may not indicate Godliness, but we stay with the assumption, for it is not up to us to judge, only the Heavenly Father can do that.
I’m going to try that. How about you?
